The Venerable Elwin Cockett ‘sad’ at Concessions Removal

Rev Elwin Cockett backs concession campaign

Elwin Cockett, the Archdeacon of West Ham for 17 years and West Ham United club Chaplain for over 20 years, is the latest high profile West Ham fan to criticise the Club’s concessions policy.

Elwin and Tony

Seen here in the photo with his son, Tony, Elwin told us:

Like a lot of people, I first became part of the West Ham family when, as an ‘under 16’, I could afford the cost of getting in to the North Bank out of my pocket money. That got me hooked, and within a few years I was a proud season ticket holder.

Later, as the Club Chaplain - an unpaid post - I had the privilege of meeting all sorts of members of the West Ham family - young and old, rich and poor, famous and infamous, even, all of them part of this club.

So it makes me sad when I hear about the ending of the concessions that allowed so many of us to get the West Ham habit as kids and that honour pensioners who have supported the club all their lives.

Our Club isn’t just a business; it’s also a family, and if we forget that we’ll cease being the West Ham we love.”
