A lot of the old West Ham pubs are sadly no longer with us. Blimey, so many of us had some good times in those places – cherished memories with great friends; some no longer with us.
But there are still some good’uns. My favourites are the Lord Stanley, The Plaistow Community Centre and The Victoria Tavern. I’ve had some great times in all three and they are all an important part of our heritage and the West Ham family.
They are all good solid staunch West Ham pubs; West Ham memorabilia on the walls, West Ham people behind the bar. ‘Our own’ who have looked after ‘our own’ for years. There’s been some great West Ham days & nights in them all.
The Stanley, run by Val.
The Club, run by Ann.
And the Vic, run by Trudy and Woody.
They are all within walking distance of Plaistow Station.
I love all 3. All used by West Ham fans for decades gone by, and hopefully decades to come.
You can have a beer before the match in comfortable surroundings at reasonable prices. You can get a table, and you won’t get covered by beer being thrown in the air! The locals like a laugh, but they would rather drink their beer.
You could start off in the Stanley (it opens at 9am on a matchday) then off to the club and enjoy one of Ann’s FREE hotdogs, and then end up in the Vic for the pre-match disco. Or try the post-match disco at the Vic if you prefer!
They all show West Ham matches on TV if you don’t fancy going to the stadium and they all have a good crowd of solid West Ham in before & after the game.
All of them make the effort to call you a cab to the football and the difference in Plaistow/Stratford beer prices means if you share a cab, you will still be quid’s in.
I really hope we can give these West Ham people the support they deserve this coming season.
“Use em or lose em”
Long Live West Ham.
