Hammers United Protest - FAQ’s

Our next large scale protest takes place on the 29th of February before the game versus Southampton.

We have been inundated with questions from people who wish to support us. There are too many for us to answer them all individually, here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions:

We need action every home game or at least before Feb 29.

Why don’t Hammers United organise this?

Any action must be planned and co-ordinated. This takes time. Our committee members are all volunteers, who give up every spare minute they have, to work on this. At present, we are just not in a position where we could sustain more regular action, due to the workload involved.

We need action on a larger scale, like a boycott or a walkout.

Why don’t Hammers United organise this?

We are thankful to have so many members. We truly are. We are also growing rapidly. However, at this point, we do not have the support of the wider fanbase. There are many fans who don’t know about us or who don’t yet understand our messaging. We hope, with the help of our members, we can continue to put this right.

We need different types of action, like shutting down the shop or obstructing the entrance the board use to access the ground.

Why don’t Hammers United organise this?

Our message is not yet understood by the media and the wider fanbase. If we are seen to be organising something that could be interpreted as disruptive, that would give the media the perfect opportunity to discredit us. If we lose our credibility, no-one will take the time to let us explain our message.

We need to protest during a game for maximum exposure.

Why don’t Hammers United organise this?

Hammers United have been very clear that our action must not affect the team. They need our support more than ever and we must make sure our efforts inside the ground are completely focused on supporting our team. There will be a show of strength and unity at Liverpool away, however we will be supporting the team through this demonstration.

Isn’t what Hammers United are organising just a reaction to poor form?

Why didn’t Hammers United act when the team were playing well?

Hammers United acting and campaigning to have the voices of our supporters heard for almost a year now. That is what this is about. The board have dismissed the opinions of supporters over the last 10 years and it is now time for us to unite and for them to listen.

Should they continue to dismiss our calls for an independent and democratic construct to engage in open and transparent dialogue to help us represent the concerns of the fanbase, then perhaps our membership will call for the aim of the campaign to change.
